Soon after graduating I went to work for the University of Maine in what was known at the time as Residential Life as a Software Support Technician. My job was to learn about all of the software used by the department and support the end users with training, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the desktop software. From there I was given the opportunity to help setup a Novell network system for the department and became one of the department’s system administrators.
Throughout my career at the University of Maine I have had the opportunity to work in many different aspects of personal computing. One aspect that peaked my interested was database systems and more specifically web-based database applications. I have over 16 years of experience in SQL database management systems including modeling and design, implementation, maintenance and reporting. I have earned two Microsoft certifications, one as a Technology Specialist (MCTS – SQL Server 2005) and the other as an Information Technology Professional (MCITP – Database Developer).
In 2005 I graduated from the University of Maine with a Master’s of Science degree in Information Systems Science; a program that delved heavily into relational database systems, information systems law, knowledge management and data modeling.
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family and being outdoors. I still work with a local Boy Scout troop and I’m an adult advisor for my son’s Boy Scout Venture Crew. I enjoy hiking, backpacking trips, fishing, skiing, golf and photography. When I have the time I still practice Taekwondo and hold a third-degree black belt rank in Songahm Taekwondo.
